KAILASA PARAMPARAGATHA

KAILĀSA Paramparagatha Arunagiri Yogishwara Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha

The KAILĀSA Paramparagatha Arunagiri Yogishwara Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha originated in the town of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, South India from Paramaśiva in His incarnation as Arunagiri Yogishwara. With spiritual origins from the Big Bang and the creation of the Universe, Paramaśiva promised to be eternally available to His devotees in three forms – the form of the Hill, Arunachala, the form of the Arunachaleshwara Linga and the human form as the Avatār. Since then, The Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha has had a continuous living stream of incarnations who have continuously guided humanity in the path of Enlightenment.
The enlightenment ecosystem of Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha is eternally protected by Paramaśiva. In this lineage are some of the most notable incarnations including Bhagavān Ramana Mahaṛṣi and Yogi Ramsurat Kumar. Directly initiated by Arunagiri Yogishwara Himself, The Supreme Pontiff of Hinduism Bhagavān Nithyānanda Paramashivam is the present day incarnation of Paramaśiva in this lineage and the successor of the Arunachala Sarvajnapeetha, the very place which unfolded His greatest leelas (divine plays) from childhood. Until today, it is a spiritual nerve center attracting sincere seekers from across the globe.

The Happening of Arunachala

2008  The SPH on the sacred Arunachala Hill

The following is an excerpt from The SPH’s commentary on the happening of the great Hill, Arunachala, from the scriptures. In the Arunachala Mahatmyam, it details the epic of the gods Brahma and Viṣṇu. Though seemingly an ancient story, it has deep spiritual and scientific significance.

“Please understand matter has two parts: mind and physique. Mind also is matter. Matter has two parts: mind and physique. The highest possibility in the mind is Brahma. Highest possibility in the physical realm is Viṣṇu. Both of them thought they are the ultimate. When you reach something extraordinary in any one field you just feel like you are the highest. So Śiva has to liberate them, give them enlightenment, the ultimate.

He appears as a huge dīpa stamba (light shaft) in front of Brahma and Viṣṇu. He says any one of you find the head or tail end of this dīpa stamba (light shaft) is the greatest person. So immediately Brahma starts flying up. The intellect starts going up. And Viṣṇu starts going down. The whole search starts. It goes on and on and on. Brahma really feels he will not be able to find but he is not able to give up his ego. He is not able to surrender. Viṣṇu also realizes he will not be able to make it. But one nice thing about the matter is, the failure is clearly informed to you. You understand the failure.

Viṣṇu comes back and surrenders and say, ‘It’s not possible, I realized. Consciousness is the greatest and the ultimate possibility in the matter.’ The wealth, or Lakshmi, cannot give ultimate enlightenment. It cannot give ultimate possibility. It’s a great thing, having wealth is great. Nothing wrong. But that itself is not the purpose of life. That itself is not the ultimate. It’s just a utility, good utility; having good food, good clothes, good education, good medical care and good infrastructure to stay is perfect; great, but not ultimate. While Brahma is going up, he sees a flower coming down. He catches that flower and asks where are you from. The flower says Śiva kept me in his ears. So from the ear I am falling and going down. Brahma says, ‘Will you do me a favor, after all you are going down, I’ll take you and tell Śiva that I came up to the ears and brought you.’ The flower says ‘No problem that’s perfect. I can do a favor to you. What is there?’

This is what is that disciple – disciple relationship; telling a lie to Guru and another one favoring. So they tried to play their foolish game and Brahma comes down and says, ‘Mahadeva I reached your head. From your ears I brought this flower see; witness.’ Śiva asked, ‘What do you say about it?’ That flower said, ‘Yes, yes, he brought me from the ears.’

Śiva just opens his third eye. Immediately Brahma is shaken. Brahma knows after all he can’t hide. And Śiva curses, because of your lying unstable structure nobody will worship you in the planet earth and you will not be the measuring scale for anything. That is why the mind can never be a measuring scale for anything in the world. Even for your spiritual growth your mind can never be a measuring scale. Because morning it will show you are in ecstasy; already enlightened. Evening it will tell you, ‘You and enlightenment. Who are you cheating?’

Understand, the in-charge (representation) of your mood swing is Brahma. So even if you are caught with Viṣṇu (with wealth), don’t worry you will finally fall at the feet and get enlightened. Never get caught with Brahma. Because the swing that Brahma does is unimaginable. Just like the tongue it can speak anything into anything. It can tell anything into anything.

That is why Brahma has no temple. Due to his lies, he is cursed that he will not be worshiped by anyone. And this flower, Śiva says, ‘You will not be used anymore for my worship.’ So, naturally after the curse both of them come to their senses. They cry and beg. Then Śiva says, ‘Alright wherever my charaņāmruta (blessed water used to wash the feet) falls, stand there and continuously every day drink that charaņāmruta so that your tongue will become pure.’ So, that is the reason in all temples where Śiva’s charaņāmruta falls, Brahma will be standing and he will be drinking and sprinkling and filling his kamandalu (copper water pot). With that charaņāmruta only he creates the world. He runs, he creates the whole universe and whatever little bit of stability is in the mind is because of charaņāmruta of Śiva. As long as you drink the charaņāmruta you will not have the effect of Brahma on you.

That’s why Brahma is always standing in all temples where the charaņāmruta falls, he will be standing and purifying himself. And that flower continuously did penance. Finally Śiva said, ‘Maybe only one day, on Shivaratri day, I will accept, you will be used for my worship.’ He gives shāpa vimochana (liberation from the curse).”

The Happening of  Lingodbhava Has Two Important Lessons

1. Consciousness (Śiva) is always ultimate and will lead you to ultimate, more than wealth and intellect.

2. The happening of Paramaśiva as the great shaft of light is the Big Bang, the source of all existence. This demonstrates the profound understanding of Vedic Ṛṣis who recognized the happening of existence. This is further evidenced by the celebration of Kartigai Deepam in Tiruvannamalai, where the concept of “Ekoham Bahushyāma” or “One Becoming Many” is signified by the ritual of one light being used to light lamps all over town. This ritual signifies the Big Bang as the source of all existence. At the end of the festival, all lamps are brought back and merge with the main lamp, the Mahadeepam, signifying all of existence eventually becoming one with the source Again.

The 3-fold Promise

Though initially misled by his own arrogance, in this timeless epic, the Arunachala Mahatmyam, Lord Brahma himself is the one who narrates this story to his son. He does not have even an ounce of pride left in him or hot vengeance against Paramaśiva, whom he could have perceived as his punisher, but instead remembers with deepest reverence. Such is the compassion of Paramaśiva: to liberate one even beyond the slightest hints of one’s pain. Paramaśiva manifested first as the teja stambha, the infinite shaft of effulgent light, to liberate Lord Brahma and Lord Viṣṇu and subsequently manifested in the form of the sacred Hill – Arunachala, to liberate the whole humanity itself. Even as He was present in the Hill-form, those who were dearly devoted to Him sweetly lamented, “Other than the rain from the sky, who will perform abhiśekam, the sacred bath, for you? Other than the stars, who can offer pearl garland for you? Other than the rays of the sun, who can offer deepa, the lit lamp, for you?”

Therefore, the kshetra of Tiruvannamalai is the very place on Earth which Paramaśiva declared as his home thousands of years ago in the three Divine forms – the sacred Hill Arunachala, the Linga Arunachaleshwara, and in the form of the Incarnation of Paramaśiva who lands time and again in the human body. In a fourth form, which was not declared by Paramaśiva and yet still seamlessly manifested, He lives as śivah sarva guhā śayah, – as Śiva, the one who resides in the hearts of all.
This is true especially among the towns people of Tiruvannamalai for whom Arunachala is antaryāmi, their most Supreme Lord and their most
intimate partner, making it possible for Paramaśiva to appear again and again as one among them. Adhering to his most compassionate boon for humanity, Paramaśiva takes the form of Arunagiri Yogishwara on Planet Earth and guides Lord Viṣṇu and Lord Brahma in creating the enlightened civilization of Tiruvannamalai.

Tiruvannamalai: The Perfect City

I am actually mapping the Kamikāgama into Tiruvannamalai – such perfect Śiva’s City! You see, in Adi KAILĀSA (another kingdom of KAILĀSA) Banyan Tree is Paramaśiva. The Linga represents the Paramaśiva, accepts Puja. Banyan Tree is Paramaśiva. Same way in Tiruvannamalai, Arunachala, that Hill is Paramaśiva. Because you can’t pour the water and do all the abhishekam, alankaram and enjoy, celebrate the kriya- the Linga represents Paramaśiva, receives Puja. So, the whole temple is centered on Linga, City is centered on Hill.

                                           – 12 March 2018 Presidential Address of The SPH

The Paramaśiva lineage represents the tradition of Gurus (enlightened masters) in Tiruvannamalai (also called Arunachala) starting from Paramaśiva Himself. The lineage of Paramaśiva prevails to fulfill Paramaśiva’s promise to humanity to be an eternal guiding force through an unbroken lineage of living Gurus hailing from Tiruvannamalai to sustain the enlightenment ecosystem.

Hindu History reveals the appearance of Śrī Paramaśiva as an infinite effulgence of light (called ‘lingodbhava’ depicted as a deity in the picture) in Tiruvannamalai to bless humanity with the promise to be available in the three-fold form: 1) form of the sacred Hill Arunachala that continuously radiates the energy of Enlightenment 2) form of the worshipful Śiva Liṅga deity in the Arunachaleshwara temple in Tiruvannamalai and 3) As a living incarnation to continuously guide the people in the path of Enlightenment

Siddhars of Tiruvannamalai

From Arunagiri Yogisvara, in the lineage of Paramasiva in Tiruvannamalai, the following great enlightened beings are recorded in the history of Tiruvannamalai. These great ‘Siddhars’ (mystical beings) are reported to be still wandering in this “Hill of Light”. Siddhars are enlightened masters indulging in continuous practice. They have developed, among other branches of a vast enlightened-based knowledge-system, what is now known as the Siddha medicine system of healing through herbs.

The Sacred Mountain Path

The true significance of circumambulating Arunachala is said to be as effective as a circuit around the world. That means that the whole world is condensed into this Hill. The circuit round the temple of Arunachala is equally good.

The Arunachala Puranam (Scripture revealing the history of Arunachala) declares: ‘the holy Arunachala is the primal, Adi linga. The path around its base is the sacred Yoni or base of the Shivalinga.

The Lineages of Regent Kings

The more than 100 stone inscriptions of Tiruvannamalai reveal that Cholas were the early regent kings of Tiruvannamalai who built the smaller shrines of the Arunachaleshwara temple. They were followed by the Kadavarayas, the Hoysalas, the Pandyas, the Vijayanagara kings and the Nayaks, who progressively developed the temple architecture to its full fledged state as seen today. The Kadavarayas were feudatories of the Chola kings in the 13th century but later defied their authority.
